Izzy’s first backpacking experience went very well.  She is constant entertainment while trying to jump from rock to rock all day long.

Just returned from a little backpacking trip to the Bisti Badlands in New Mexico.  Perfectly sunny and warm weather was exactly what I was looking for.  I have visited this area a few times and it’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

I am very proud to be working with the organization Art for Conservation in offering prints of mine while donation 5% of the profits to a conservation cause.  I have picked the Prince William Soundkeeper as my organization to donate to because of my history with them and the area.  This prints are the best quality in the business today and are done by Fine Print Imaging in Fort Collins Colorado.  I currently only have 5 images for sale but will be getting more up very soon.  To check them out go to Art for Conservation. 

Hiking through Antelope canyon is a wonderland of color and light.  Every few steps you are treated to new variations of light bouncing off the striated sandstone walls.  I really like this photo because the lizard adds a unique and subtle element to the image.  Luckily this guy stayed perfectly still for the 5 second exposure.

She went from having to be forced to eat to eating everything in sight!

While I was in Arizona when the pup was sleeping I made it out for few times and managed to get some shots.  The puppy is now doing really well and sleeping on my lap as I write this.  I had never been to Antelope Canyon before mainly because of the amount of people there but being limited in time and thinking the crowds would be thin in the winter I went for it.  It really is an amazing place.  I have hiked some great slot canyons in Utah and Arizona in the past but this really is the grandaddy of them all.  I only saw one other person and had a great little hike.

My backpacking trip to Arizona turned out a little different then I planned.  While driving to the Vermilion Cliffs I took a back road turnoff to walk my dog and came within a foot of running over this sweet thing.  It was lying in the rut of the dirt road crying.  Abandoned and all alone this pup broke my heart and I brought it to the Page vet.  I’m trying to nurse it now and if she pulls through she will need a good home if anyone is looking for the sweetest pup ever!

Here is another shot from my quick Canyonlands trip last week.  Shortly after sunrise some great clouds moved in and created a more dramatic sky.

I took a quick overnight trip down to Canyonlands to shoot some photos and get out of town.  The desert still has a lot of snow which makes it tough for hiking but great for photos.  This trip made me realize how much I love packing up the truck and exploring.  I think I will try to do a little longer road trip very soon.
