B&W conversion

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:01 pm

I had some free time this morning so I started going through photos I have taken this winter to look for images to convert to black and white.  I tend to favor images that are rich in texture to convert over and found this shot of Shiprock Spire I took in Feb.  The whispy clouds and rich tall grass really stand out in B&W and I’m very happy with the results.  I might try some more conversions in the next few days if I can find more free time.shiprock.jpg

Striper ceviche

A sea kayaker making ceviche from a freshly caught Striped Bass in Lake Powell, Utah

One of my favorite aspects of a sea kayaking trip is the fly fishing and ultimately the fish it provides for dinner.  Although the fishing was slow on our Lake Powell trip I was fortunate to get a nice Striper on my 6 weight fly rod that made for an amazing ceviche lunch.  Striped Bass is one of my favorites to fish for as well as eat.  They are an ocean fish that mostly inhabits the east coast of the US but were introduced into Lake Powell some time ago and took to it very well.  They are very aggressive and are a blast on the fly rod.  Making ceviche on the beach with freshly caught fish is something I learned in Mexico with Snook but seems to be perfectly suited for Stripers in Lake Powell, yummm!  I have updated my galleries at my homepage to include the latest Lake Powell images

Lake Powell

Filed under: Lake Powell, Travel — admin @ 7:58 pm

lake-powell.jpgI just returned from a great trip to Lake Powell this week.  The fishing was very slow but we got a lot of great paddling in and explored some amazing areas with our sea kayaks.  Putting in at Halls Crossing, we paddled south and set up a base camp where we paddled and fished from each day.  The weather was sizzling and it was a great relief from the recent snows in Telluride.  I will be getting photos from this trip up on my site early next week.
