San Miguel Winter
I spent some time this afternoon shooting one of my favorite subjects, the San Miguel river. I spend a huge amount of my time on this river, whether it’s shooting photos, fly-fishing, or just camping for the night. It’s one of the last free flowing, un-dammed rivers in colorado and offers all kinds of amazing recreational opportunities. A portion of the river is up for Wild and Scenic status which will hopefully pass congress soon.

Portraits
Portrait photography is something I have very little experience with other then people shots in the outdoors with natural light. About a month ago I shot some photos of my very pregnant friend as a favor and was pleased with the results and actually had fun doing it. Now baby Boris is almost 2 weeks old and some photos were needed of this cute little guy. I don’t have any studio equiptment so I used a couple of lights on either side of a large tv that was turned off for a black background. This makeshift studio actually worked well and we got some good shots of Boris who was a perfect model!

Winter on Telluride’s Valley Floor
I spent last evening shooting images of the San Miguel river and Telluride’s Valley Floor in freezing temps. The storm that brought us some much needed snow was breaking up just as the sun was setting, creating some dramatic, beautiful light above town. The extended sunsets of winter are some of my favorite to shoot with so much snow and ice to pick up the hues from above.

Top 10 of 2010
Shuffling through my images of this past year has become a great learning tool for me which I greatly look forward to. It puts things in perspective for me and allows me to set some new goals for the coming year based on my experience of the previous year. This past year I stuck fairly close to home, with the exception of a few Mexico trips, and had some great local adventures. I concentrated heavily on outdoor adventure images and my selection of the top images of the year represents that.
