Dallas Divide

I spent last night and this morning shooting photos on Dallas Divide looking out on the Sneffels range.  It is a great shot but I hate to do it.  What you don’t see is the 30 other photographers that are taking photos right next to me.  With most of my photography I like to get as far away from people as I can and try to get more unique shots.  The sad thing is that this photo is more likely to sell even though you see basically the same shot published all over the place.  It baffles me sometimes what images photo editors choose.  Now that I did my due diligence at “the turnout” I can move on to some more out of the way spots.  Last night we got some snow in the mountains and the morning version of this shot is a little different with the mountains having snow on them.  Looks like the bad weather has finally hit us, can’t wait for Lake Powell!

Telluride Fly-Fishing

I went out with Rick fly-fishing on the Valley Floor just outside of Telluride yesterday and we had a stellar day.  The Brown trout are running up through this small water and we were able to sight cast to some good size Browns with 3 weight rods.  It does not get much better than that.  We also caught a good number of Brook trout that are changing into their fall colors, very pretty.

We are having some amazing weather in Telluride right now, looks like it might come to an end after today.  I’m going to stick around the area until Saturday then it looks like I’m bound for Lake Powell to do some sea kayaking and fly-fishing.

The fish have been going crazy up at Priest lake with the warm weather we have gotten the last few days.  What a beautiful spot to fish for hungry Brook Trout!

Here is another shot of the Wilson’s taken this morning. I have been posting way too many shots of this area but it is just too pretty this time of year. The colors are getting good, we just need a blanket of fresh snow on the mountains which might be coming later this week!

Bridal Veil Falls

This is Bridal Veil falls at the head of the box canyon out of Telluride.  The building perched on top of the cliff is the old power plant that has been restored and still provides some power for Telluride.  There is not that much water in the falls right now but if it rains again it will get it going and I might have to go back up for some more shots.

Aspens before the storm

I was taking some shots of the Wilson range last night and looked behind me to see this scene.  A row of bright Aspens were lit up as a storm was approaching.  It started hailing right after I took this shot.

I captured this view of Wilson Peak through some bright Aspens early this morning.  Looks like another great sunny fall day.

Fall Ride

What a beautiful day, finally.  Mike and I went on a great bike ride today and got into a few good patches of Aspens.  Most of the trees are dulled out due to the bad weather we have had lately but hopefully this sun will get them glimmering again.

Mt Sneffels Wilderness

I made it up to the Mt Sneffels Wilderness area just in time to listen to the JETS stomp the Patriots on my satellite radio, what a day.  I had another big storm roll in on me last night and my tent was covered in a 1/4 inch of ice this morning.  It’s getting pretty cold out and it’s making me think about heading to the desert.  I’m going to try to hold off until the colors peak around here but the 70 and 80 degree weather near Moab is sounding really nice right now.
