We are into our monsoon season a little bit early this summer and have been getting afternoon thunderstorms every day. Typically the systems move out in the evening and often there is some very dramatic light at sunset like in the above photo at Wilson Mesa last night.

Here is another shot from our backpacking trip last weekend. This is from a little mountain we climbed up to that is just shy of 13,000. The lakes in the background are a few of the lower ones as you first pop above tree-line on the trail. I have only fished a few of them but I can’t wait to get back up there when I have more time to dial in the fishing.

I got out of town for a quick backpacking trip into the Weminuche wilderness area above Silverton this last weekend. We hiked up to the Highland Mary’s lakes, one of my favorite places to explore. The wildflowers are not out yet but the views are still spectacular.

Went for a quick overnight camping trip up to Alta Lakes for some fly fishing and quiet. We had some very nice light at the end of the day when I captured the image above of Mike casting while Maxine intently watches him.

I was cruising around to some of my favorite wildflower areas yesterday and it seems they are still about a week away from peaking on the mesa’s. I did spot loads of Deer and Elk in the open on the Mesa’s. This is a Deer in velvet walking through a field of Lupine late last evening.

There is no shortage of moving water around Telluride this time of year with rivers at peak runoff flows. This is Deep Creek just down from town. Even though Deep Creek is running very high it’s still mostly clear which makes for a nice long exposure.

The Lupine have started to bloom on the mesas around Telluride and the Mules Ears shouldn’t be too far behind. These are some of my favorite wildflowers to shoot in the summer with the wide open vistas that the mesas provide.

I have teamed up with Telluride Outside for some new photo tours in Telluride. We are offering half day and full day tours in the spectacular Telluride area. Teamed up with a 4X4 jeep and driver we will take clients to pre-scouted locations for the best landscape and nature shots in the area. I have done three tours over the past five days and each one has been very successful. The clients have had a broad range of photographic experience and we can tailor the trip to most anyone. For more info or to book a trip go to Telluride Outsides website at www.tellurideoutside.com.

This last week has finally felt like summer with temps creeping into the 80’s and the annual Telluride Balloon festival kicking off. The photo above is from the Main St glow last night, one of the favorite events in Telluride.
